Tooth infinity and beyond← Return to Blog
Can our teeth last forever?
In 2007, scientists in Spain found a tooth from a distant human ancestor that is more than one million years old.
What we are certain of is, if we strive to take care of our teeth – following dentists’ advice -then our teeth will remain stronger for longer. Perhaps tooth infinity isn’t beyond the realms of possibility!
Here at Diamond Dental Clinic we want to encourage you to get the most out of your teeth and your smile. We have three handy steps to help you do so:
1 – Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
A mars a day may help you work rest and play, but it will also lead to tooth decay. There are lots of hidden sugars in many food items so it may be useful to read the labels. If you can manage to cut down on the frequency of your daily sugar intake, this will definitely help your teeth in the long run. If you are really craving something sweet, then best have it with your meal – this will at least help neutralise the acidity caused by the sugars.
2 – Brush your teeth last thing at night and on at least one other occasion with fluoride toothpaste.
Most of us are probably in the habit of brushing our teeth in the morning and night time. Indeed this is a good habit to have, but perhaps, instead of calling it a habit we might like to call it a necessary part of our daily routine. Just as important is to brush with fluoride toothpaste – this works to strengthen your tooth enamel. Space may be full of holes and cavities but this is not what we wish to achieve for our teeth!
3 – Visit your dentist regularly – as often as they recommend.
The dentist isn’t just there for when we feel pain, but rather they wish to PREVENT tooth pain. If we visit our dentist regularly, they’ll be able to detect the early onset of tooth decay and gum disease before it potentially erupts into something major!
So following these three simple steps will not only add fuel to your vessel as you journey towards tooth infinity. They will also help you achieve infinitely more confidence in your smile
